Averatec D1005. Cool, or lawsuit waiting to happen? You decide!

Posted on July 20, 2009 at 8:51am 5 Comments

Averatec already has a few offerings on the market when it comes to all-in-one pcs. The D1005 slips in neatly between the 25 and a half and 18 inch models. It's nothing to write home about spec wise, but at $799, it sits neatly in the 'college workstation and public terminal' category, even despite its uncanny… Continue

Yet Another Tablet Post

Posted on July 17, 2009 at 8:00pm 2 Comments

So, after I reported on rumours yesterday, this little bundle of love comes to my attention. The Gigabyte T1028 is a netbook with reversible form factor, coming in at about the specs I want at the price I want. I'm definitely dropping its name in the hat for when I make a decision. I likely won't until october, but it will be really cool to see what shapes up.

Down to the tech specs, the unit sports a 1.66ghz Atom processor, up to 2gb… Continue

Apple Tablet, Part Deux

Posted on July 16, 2009 at 8:30am 3 Comments

So, in continuation to my search for a yummy piece of tablet-ey sexiness, the latest rumour, published by a news source out of taiwan, is that Apple is going to ship a 9.7" touch screen netbook/tablet as early as October. Rumours have it set at $800, and it will include touch screen capabilities.

Gene Munster, an analyst for Piper Jaffray, writes that Apple is indeed… Continue

EVGA Announces new GTX 285 Mac Edition Drivers, link mysteriously broken minutes later.

Posted on July 9, 2009 at 6:12am 1 Comment

I'm smelling cease and desist action from apple on this one. Apple has had a lockdown on drivers for years now, and I kind of eyebrowed when I heard EVGA claim they were releasing a mac driver, and placed it for download in their site.

Well, needless to say, it's a few hours later an without explanation, no drivers in site. I think maybe EVGA learned why there are no other cats in america, so to speak:

Opinion Piece: Apple Netbook Tablet

Posted on July 2, 2009 at 1:30pm 4 Comments

The Problem

So, there has been a lot of talk recently about apple's entry into the netbook market. They're a bit wishy washy on whether or not they actually will, but one of the more exciting rumours is that they'd be making a tablet. Now, I'm not usually an enormous fan of apple's hardware, but in this case, I will make an exception. If there is one thing I know apple can make well, it would be this particular piece device. The form factor, the… Continue

.Net/Mono Dev Question

I realize this is a bit moot if you properly implement caching, but so far as the JIT compiler is concerned, which is faster in an application:1) Using Masterpages2) Content Controls for the sameI've been doing it both ways for years, whatever suited my convenience, but really, my tests have shown mix results, so, has anyone else done extensive testing on this subject, or even better, found conclusive results?See More
