I'm Jaym. What? How do you say it? Say "Jaymie". Now say it with no "ie". See, easy!

This Post Sucks!

"Most of the younger people I knew didn't seem to have a handle on things; they hadn't found their place, they didn't understand how the world works, they didn't understand how to treat other people, and they didn't know how to stop thinking about themselves."

~Kristin Hersh

It sucks.

What, you ask? Nearly every entertainment product that is released nowadays. Mind you, this is far from my own opinion- rather, this attitude seems to seep throughout our entire… Continue

Gaming- The Maligned Hobby

"It is in games that many men discover their paradise."

~Robert Lynd

Consider all of the potential activities each individual can engage in for entertainment. Imagine the millions of different types of fun, each fitting into different categories, aligning themselves with the unique personalities of each individual. Now ask yourself, if someone was talking about your friend's personal choice of hobby and said, "Joe? Oh, he'll grow out of that hobby." What is the first activity… Continue

An Accurate New Name for "MMORPGs"

Posted on December 16, 2008 at 2:30pm 3 Comments

If you're a gamer, you've heard and used this phrase countless times. Even when it first became widespread in its usage, jokes flew with its lack of brevity. You know the name... "MMORPG": "Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game".

That name has to be changed.

Why? Certainly some will agree it's a pain to say, but you can just call it an "MMO" instead, right? Unfortunately, that doesn't reach the crux of the matter... it's inaccurate. My first question to you is:… Continue

The Difference Between Nerds, Geeks and Dorks

Posted on December 15, 2008 at 6:00pm 12 Comments

"One of the most frightening things about your true nerd, for many people, is not that he's socially inept- because everybody's been there- but rather his complete lack of embarassment about it."

~Neal Stephenson

Labels are a sign of a mentally weak mind, but as a society, we're simply brainwashed into thinking it's an acceptable process. While I'd like to present something here that would help to make people think twice about the usage of labels upon others, I realize the… Continue

I think anybody can become a graphic designer, but it doesn't hurt to have some drawing skills up your sleeve to draw out ideas before putting them on the computer.

Profile Information

What kind of geek are you?
Computer / Gaming / Prince / Druid
Why do you consider yourself a geek?
I'm obsessive towards my interests, and that is the correct definition of "geek" (it's not interchangeable with "nerd", for instance.)
How did you find out about our Geek community?
Someone's post on Twitter. Honestly not sure who!
What are your "geeky equipment" specs?
Alienware 7500 Premiere
27" Dell HD Flatscreen Monitor
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU Q6850 @ 3.00GHz
4GB low latency DDR2 memory
Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260s in SLI mode
1TB Raid 0 low latency NVIDIA STRIPE 931.52G Hard Drive
HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55L ATA Device*
HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD GBC-H20N SCSI CdRom Device*
SoundBlaster X-Fi Sound Card
*(Blu-Ray/DVD player, LightScribe enabled DVD/CD burner)
Internal Liquid Cooling System with sound buffering
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate

Time Spent Over 30 FPS: 99.68 percent of total benchmark time was spent above 30 FPS
Time Spent Over 70 FPS: 96.47 percent of total benchmark time was spent above 70 FPS

I also finally grabbed a 360 (yay!) and an iPod Touch (loving it- it's honestly my first MP3 player since they were invented!)
What do you want to be when you grow up?
As I'm growing up, I want to be young again. The older you get, the more options you lose in life. Can I pretend to be 27 again, and have everyone play along? (Yes, 27 is TOO young!)
What makes you laugh?
Silly, goofy, intelligent, witty humor. Monty Python, Stephen Colbert, Robin Williams, or The Office all work as examples. Farting does not.
What is the thing in life you treasure most?
Kind of a tie between my Prince collection and my new Alienware. I kid, Prince wins hands down. I couldn't live without my Prince music. I can get another computer. =)
What's the geekiest thing you've ever done?
Perhaps it'd be one weekend in the 90's when I played Dark Age of Camelot from Friday at 6:00pm until Monday at 2:00am.- oh, and never grouped with another player, so the whole time I was solo. I also had the window open (this was in Chicago) in winter while it was snowing, and played like that with the snow blowing on me. Loved it.
What do you do to entertain yourself?
Gaming! I'm a gamer. That's me. Oh, and I go to Starbucks as often as my circumstances allow, preferably every day.
Favorite music, movies, books, shows, artists, games, people, events, hobbies, etc.?
Music? I only listen to Prince, whom I call the God of Music. No, that is not one of my silly jokes. Dead serious- best musician of human history, and the proof is there to back it up. =P

Books? The Shannara Series by Terry Brooks is my favorite, but I have many others- Guardians of the Flame, Chronicles of Amber,

Shows? Lost- the best TV show ever, in history- and the greatest story ever told in any format. (Also love Firefly/Serenity, Buffy and Angel, and Battlestar (the new one of course), which is the 2nd best show ever made for TV.) Oh, and I love the Stargates- all of 'em.

Games? Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Civ IV... I'm poking at Lord of the Rings Online right now. I play just about everything but arcadey/video-games. I like meat to the gameplay.

People? Prince- he's so much more than most people know or make him out to be. We're lucky to be living during the lifetime of the greatest musician history will ever know. Rags to riches, charitable, wise, funny... anyways- he's my idol, easily.

Things you are that people think is a cult? I'm a Druid in the largest international order in the world, the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids (Druidry.com). I've been pretty out of touch due to personal circumstances, but I've been doing my own reading in the meanwhile. Druidry is NOT a cult *grrr* and in fact many of the concepts and holidays of Christianity were STOLEN from the Druids when they were in the process of trying to wipe them all from existence. Meanies.

Hobbies? Gaming, Starbucksing (ok, I made that up). Uh... yeah. That's about it. I don't do much, because of...

Problems? I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and at this point in my life expected to be married, have kids, have my career chugging along and have my own lovely house somewhere.

Instead I've been unemployed 7 years, have no clue what I'm going to do for work again in my life, can't get help from anyone, have no kids, haven't been on a date since 1997, and am therefore unlikely to get married or have kids- which I deem as the ultimate "success/failure" mark in life. If I don't pass on my DNA, then when I die it will be as if I never existed. Which, considering how many idiots out there have kids, is a MAJOR loss to our species.

(I'll leave it up to you to determine what percent of the above is serious and what percent is self-deprecating/tongue-in-cheek humor that will fly over the heads of everyone reading.)
