Hackers are often in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. There are many misconceptions about hackers. The first thing you must know about hackers is that there are different types of hackers. There are black hat hackers, gray hat hackers, and white hat hackers. Black hat hackers are the ones that come to mind when most people hear “hacker.” These are malicious people who wreak havoc on the net either for gain or petty enjoyment. White hat hackers are the least known and hack for the sole purpose in understanding and evaluating the security systems of various programs and the credibility of sites. Lastly, there are gray hat hackers. These are the hackers that are neutral and do not take either side. They are neither good nor bad.
Controversy shrouds Nasdaq's recent situation. Hackers breached Nasdaq but did not do anything. Authorities say that they were merely looking around and soon left. If the hackers did anything more, the results would have been catastrophic.
For people who do want to hack for the sole purposes helping and benefiting others, this site provides tutorials and special missions you can do at home to learnhacking. Hard work is needed to learn hacking and eventually requires some programming knowledge. The first mission requires a working knowledge of HTML . However, if you just want to grasp how hackers hack various places on the net, there are cheats that provide helpful walkthroughs to pass the various missions. I have uploaded my own video walkthrough of the first mission.

You'll probably never hear about whitehats in the media. I've always preferred hardware myself. Knowing how to chip a console would be considered hacking, but it doesn't require any programming knowledge
